Week Without Violence 2016

We already know the numbers are staggering. One in four women will become a victim of domestic violence. Every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted. Moreover, women of color, immigrant women, transgender women, women with disabilities, and other people with multiple marginalized identities are at even greater risk for gender-based violence and face increased barriers to safety. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether.not-all-violence-acknowledged-equally_brand

That’s why for more than 20 years, we have set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence. Week Without Violence is part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls with the World YWCA. This year, we are focused on ending gender-based violence. Gender-based violence recognizes a spectrum of violence, including but not limited to, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and harassment. From October 17 – 21, we will be focused on education, survivor support, and legislative action to work toward this bold goal.

And we want EVERYONE to join us. Gender-based violence is a huge issue, but together, we can make a huge impact. Sign up today to get involved.
