Yesterday an immigrant survivor of domestic violence was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while she was in court pursuing a protective order.

Statement by YWCA USA Interim CEO, Casey Harden

“Perpetrators of intimate partner violence will always try to weaponize the systems at their disposal — including exploiting their victim’s immigration status. In this case, we can see the horrifying reality of a survivor of domestic violence being punished for coming forward. We must stand with immigrant survivors as they seek safety from abuse.”
