STATEMENT BY CASEY HARDEN, INTERIM CEO OF YWCA USA

“We’re pleased the American Health Care Act (AHCA) has been pulled from consideration. This legislation was not a viable, comprehensive replacement plan to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and would have done considerable harm to the communities we serve.

“The AHCA would have eliminated critical elements of coverage provided by the ACA including protections for survivors of domestic violence, maternity and reproductive care, and essential health benefits for low income Medicaid recipients.

“YWCA USA will continue working to protect the critical gains won with the ACA. While today’s decision not to bring the vote to the floor was a relief, we must all remain engaged and active on this important issue.”
