Kicking off Stand Against Racism!

Stand Against Racism officially begins today! Join YWCAs and other groups and individuals across the country as we raise our voices around this year’s theme, “Women of Color Leading Change.” Thank you for standing up, speaking out, and taking action to eliminate racism in our communities.

Here are ten ways to get connected and get involved this week:

1.) Attend an event in your area! (If you have planned an event, but haven’t registered, be sure to do so).

2.) If you’re in Washington, D.C., join us today, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. ET for a policy briefing with impressive panelists including Lillian Rodríguez López of Coca-Cola, Leticia Smith-Evans Haynes of Williams College, Fatima Goss Graves of the National Women’s Law Center, Maria Robles Meier of MTerprise Inclusion Strategies, and Vanessa Jimenez of YWCA San Antonio. This free briefing will be moderated by Symone Sanders of CNN and space is limited – so register right away!

3.) Join our #StandAgainstRacism tweet chat this Friday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m. ET to dialogue with YWCAs, our partners, and other advocates from across the country.

4.) Watch the video of this special Facebook Live event, in partnership with the United State of Women, featuring Alicia Gill of YWCA USA, Brittany Packnett of Teach for America and #BlackWomenAtWork, Dr. C. Nicole Mason of the Center for Research and Policy in the Public Interest and author of Born Bright, and Fatima Goss Graves of the National Women’s Law Center.

5.) Sign the Stand Against Racism pledge and encourage everyone you know to do the same. The pledge is a great way to commit yourself to this important cause and demonstrate the size of this great movement 10 years in the making. (Looking for the pledge in Spanish? Read it here as translated by YWCA San Francisco & Marin.)

6.) Tell your Member of Congress to prioritize women of color by supporting concrete policy solutions.

7.) Make a tax deductible donation of $10 in honor of Stand Against Racism’s 10th anniversary!

8.) Share your event photos, action items, and important information on social media using #StandAgainstRacism. Email photos and recaps of your event to communications@ywca.org as well!

9.) Check out Interim CEO Casey Harden’s interview with Women’s eNews Live discussing women of color leadership and this year’s campaign.

10.) Read the YWCA blog and check our Twitter and Facebook pages for spotlights on women of color leaders, deep dives into policy solutions that work, and other great Stand Against Racism content. We look forward to another impactful, community-building Stand Against Racism week. Thank you for being a part of YWCA’s movement to eliminate racism and empower women.

April 27-30 marks YWCA’s 10th annual Stand Against Racism, and this year, we are focused on a very important theme: Women of Color Leading Change. Why? Because women of color lead change and have been leading change since the very beginning, but are far too often overlooked or silenced. We know that when women of color lead, positive change happens and everyone is lifted up.

Join us as we celebrate and honor women of color leaders and talk about the barriers that create racial and gender disparities to leadership. Together, let’s highlight and lift up stories of determined, fierce women of color leaders and trailblazers in our communities and throughout history! Visit http://standagainstracism.org/ to learn more. There, you can look up to see if there are any events near you, register to host your own event or gathering, sign the pledge to stand against racism, and more!
