STATEMENT BY CASEY HARDEN, INTERIM CEO OF YWCA USA
“President Trump’s first 100 days should give us all pause to consider what kind of country we want to live in.
“He has surrounded himself with advisors and appointees who are on the record opposing women’s and LGBTQ rights, racial justice, voting rights and civil rights. His racially motivated policies and funding proposals, such as the border wall, increased efforts to detain and deport undocumented immigrants, and counter-terrorism efforts that profile Muslims or other religious, racial, or ethnic groups further institutionalize racism in our country.
“President Trump’s efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and essential health benefits for low income Medicaid recipients will take away vital healthcare from millions of Americans. His plans to defund Planned Parenthood and place restrictions on women’s access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services will have a detrimental effect on women, girls and their families.
“These policies divide our nation, limit our freedoms and further marginalize and punish women and girls, communities of color and low income Americans. We call on President Trump to change course and put in place policies that better reflect American values and ensure that everyone has equal opportunities and protections under the law. The next 100 days do not have to mirror these first.”
