YWCA USA CEO: WE HOPE FLINT CHARGES SET PRECEDENT

Statement by Casey Harden, Interim CEO, YWCA USA

“As the horrifying water crisis in Flint, Michigan continues to impact communities largely comprised of impoverished families and families of color, we are heartened to see that involuntary manslaughter charges were filed against Nick Lyons, the head of the Michigan health department.

More often than not, institutional crimes against communities of color go unaddressed, ignored, and certainly unpunished.

We hope that these charges set precedent for real accountability for leaders whose negligence put community members at risk.”
